The guide behind the expeditions

A corporate life left behind. A calling followed.

I spent years in boardrooms and on laptops in India’s major cities — working in MNCs, living the professional life my education had prepared me for. But a growing obsession with birds kept pulling me toward something else entirely.

Two years ago, I made a decision that surprised everyone who knew me: I moved to the Eastern Himalayas and made these mountains my home. Not for a season. Permanently. I taught myself to identify birds through thousands of hours in the field, through field guides, through patient watching, through every mistake a self-taught naturalist makes and learns from.

I built two bird hides. I earned the trust of local drivers, forest department officers, and homestay families who have become genuine collaborators. I formed Anindita’s Exotic Birding Expeditions — not as a business first, but as a way to share what I had found with people who would truly value it.

“The birds will always surprise you. My job is to put you in the right place, at the right moment, with the right knowledge to truly see what you’re looking at.”

What birders say about their expeditions

“Anindita found us the Ward’s Trogon within 90 minutes of arriving at the location. What struck me most was not just that she knew where to look — it was that she knew exactly how to look, when to wait, and when to move. That kind of knowledge cannot be learned from books.”
